DETECTION OF AIR VOIDS

The figure below shows the profile resulting from GPR profiling with a center frequency of 1700 MHz probe pulses. Profile of crossing empty plastic cylindrical container with diameter 0.36 m, buried in the sandy ground with rocky and man-made inclusions.

In the above example shows that the georadar profile contains multiple diffracted waves and the reflection from the hollow objects visually, did not differ from the reflections, which served as a source of comparable geometric dimensions include other local soil. Thus, by using traditional visual analysis of the wave pattern, a task for an unambiguous separation of voids can not be performed.

 

Unprocessed GPR profile

The lower figure shows a section attribute of Q-factor, superimposed on the image of GPR profile. Higher attribute values correspond to the position of hollow subsurface objects. The use of this type of treatment significantly enhances the GPR in areas such as inspection, quality control, safety, work or ekspluatsii objects (for example, searching for hidden cavities in the working layer of the subgrade of the road or the railway embankment, the omission of which, in the future, could face serious accidents).
